Memes and Quizzes

Not So Much

Here’s a kick in the metaphorical shorts: according to this doohickey, which generates a dollar value for your blog based on how frequently people link to you and the amount per link that AOL paid when it acquired Weblogs, Inc., Simple Tricks and Nonsense ain’t exactly in the big-time:

My blog is worth $564.54.
How much is your blog worth?

By contrast, Brian Greenberg’s blog, from which I learned of this little exercise in humility, is valued at $1,1289.08, and Scalzi’s Whatever (from which Brian learned of the doohickey in question) is worth just over $500K.

Man, I suck…

The 8th Grade Science Quiz

Well, this is reassuring:

You Passed 8th Grade Science

Congratulations, you got 8/8 correct!

Apparently I haven’t forgotten everything I learned in school… except how to concentrate on work instead of taking silly Internet quizzes, of course…

E-mail Meme: About Me

As you can probably guess from the subject line up, I received the following via e-mail. It’s somewhat meme-ish, so I thought I’d post it up here, just in case my three loyal readers are feeling voyeuristic and want to know all about me. Plus, it has the added benefit of allowing me to throw up a quick, low-effort entry for y’all:

TV Meme

A new meme, courtesy of Roberson’s Interminable Ramble (Roberson being the author of Paragaea, that wonderful fantasy adventure novel I mentioned recently ). The gimmick is to bold the titles of television series of which you’ve seen at least three episodes, and bold and italicize those for which I’ve seen every episode. This should be enlightening… or frightening…

Which Superhero Am I?

Hi, kids! Long time, no blog. Things have been hectic since the changeover to the new server. I am working on a couple of entries that I’ll hopefully be able to finish and post later today, but in the meantime, and in honor of tonight’s opening of Superman Returns, here are my results for the latest Internet quiz, “Which Superhero am I?”

I don’t know about the “great power and responsibility” bit — unless you count my ability to hold up production on advertising materials because of a misplaced comma — but I’ll buy the rest of it. I may not be able to climb walls and swing through the concrete canyons of Manhattan, but I do share Peter Parker’s affection for redheads. Still, I wonder why the quiz didn’t assign me Green Lantern, given that the score is the same? I don’t understand how these things work, I guess…

What Time of Day Am I?

It’s been a while since I took one of those ridiculous online quizzes that seek to grant insight into your character by comparing you to inaminate objects or abstract concepts, and I’m not much into work on this first day after the long weekend, so:

You Are Midnight

You are more than a little eccentric, and you’re apt to keep very unusual habits.
Whether you’re a nightowl, living in a commune, or taking a vow of silence – you like to experiment with your lifestyle.
Expressing your individuality is important to you, and you often lie awake in bed thinking about the world and your place in it.
You enjoy staying home, but that doesn’t mean you’re a hermit. You also appreciate quality time with family and close friends.

Birthday Meme

According to Scalzi, there’s a new meme going around based on the historical things that occurred on one’s birthday. The idea is that you run over to Wikipedia, enter your birth date (but not the year), and then select some interesting tidbits from the resulting list of information about that date. You’re supposed to choose at least three historical events, two births, and one death that all happened on the day you were born. I, of course, find this sort of meaningless trivia fascinating, so I selected a few more items than what was called for…

I’m Picard…

Another Internet quiz. Because I just love taking silly automated quizzes that ask a handful of random questions and then authoritatively declare that I’m just like a fictional character. Interestingly, my results this time indicate that I scored only a few points difference between one of the best-drawn characters of the Star Trek universe and a class of characters that are so ill-defined as to barely deserve the designation. What the heck does that say about me?

You are Jean-Luc Picard
