This is quite possibly the coolest thing I’ve found on the Internet in at least a year:
I recently delved a bit into the blaxploitation genre by watching four of the acknowledged classics — Shaft, Superfly, Coffy, and Foxy Brown — and while I can’t really say they were good movies, they did display a sort of sleazy charm and cocky attitude that I found supremely entertaining. And I’ve always liked Lando Calrissian, even if Uncle George had no idea what to do with him in Return of the Jedi. A pre-Rebellion buddy-story about him and Han Solo would be a lot of fun. If only this trailer was for real!

I’ve never understood the criticism of Han’s character in ROTJ. It’s always seemed perfectly natural to me, the mercenary who’s only in it for the money from the first movie finally committing to the cause in full, and going all out to help his side. I never bought into the idea that Han should have died, or that he was just a dead-end character, or whatever else in ROTJ. I was fine with him.
I agree, Jaq. I would’ve liked to see a brief scene where Han more explicitly pledges himself to the cause, and explains why, but generally, I’ve got no problem with how he developed. I was never one of those who thought he should’ve died.
Lando, on the other hand… I like him, and I would’ve felt bad about his death, but it always seemed to me he should’ve redeemed himself in a major, MAJOR way for betraying Han, and Han did have that premonition he wasn’t going to see the Falcon again, and I think we really did need to see one of the major characters buy it in battle, to show that the game was for real, so to speak. Lando would’ve been the obvious, poignant yet least objectionable choice.
I just liked the hot stormtroopers. “Ladies . . . these are the droids you’re looking for!”
I’m down with that, Robert… 😉
