This is one of the better ones I’ve seen. There is already something creepy about Mary Poppins.
Who played the little boy? He looks a bit like a very young Bud Cort.

Matthew Garber, according to the IMDB. Had a fairly short-lived career, consisting entirely of Disney product.
You know I’ve never actually seen Mary Poppins all the way through? It’s one of Anne’s family’s favorites…

I agree with Anne – it’s a great film. Everyone forgets about Dick Van Dyke, because Julie Andrews is so iconic in the role. But Van Dyke is mind-bogglingly talented, and shows off every last bit of that talent in this movie.
A lot of the stuff they were touting as new when Who Framed Roger Rabbit came out was done in Mary Poppins first, and almost entirely by Dick Van Dyke.
Anne – sit him down & make him watch it, wouldya?

I have seen the “Roger Rabbit”-ish segment of Van Dyke dancing with the cartoons characters — I believe they were penguins? Some kind of bird, anyway — and I agree, he was really something in his day, effortlessly charming and limber in his dancing. For whatever it’s worth, I always liked The Dick Van Dyke Show
