For the record, I harbor no particular animosity toward Microsoft, at least no more than I do for any other gargantuan corporation that seeks to dominate the universe. Nor do I have any unusual affection for Apple products — to be honest, I’ve never used any Apple products and find something vaguely disquieting about the evangelistic zealotry of devoted Mac afficionados. And while I am impressed by the technical capability of the iPod to hold an entire record collection (yes, I know I’m dating myself by using the term “record” instead of “CD”; that’s just me, though, what can I say?), I have thus far been insufficiently intrigued by them to actually go out and buy one. I’m just not that much of a trend-follower, I guess.
Neverthless, I can positively declare, based on my professional experience, that the following parody hits the nail on the head. And it’s funnny, too. Really. Even if you don’t get it, trust me, it’s funny. Just go ahead and laugh already…

Well since I use both platforms, I’m not a die hard Apple guy but I will say one thing – they just work. Period. The simplicity is that they don’t have to sell their products like Microsoft does hence why this little piece is so funny. If you have a Mac, most likely it will run anything made for a mac. Let’s see MS try that.
And the packaging is pretty. You almost want to display it as well…
🙂
I’ll have to watch this over the weekend when I have access to my parent’s DSL connection. Here at work I have no sound, and the picture quality isn’t all that great. 🙁
Cheno, you’re sounding kind of zealous there… 🙂
Anne, the picture quality isn’t so great anyway, and the soundtrack is music only, but it definitely contributes to the effect. Don’t forget to watch “Trapped in the Web of Love” while you’ve got the fast connection. 😉
First of all, very funny!
Second, maybe it’s just me, but I would appreciate having system regs and screen shots and stuff on the package. Maybe I’m just trained to be an MS user, but I like to know when I’m buying hardware or software that it will work on my machine and that I like the interface.
Third, I finally, finally, finally broke down and bought an iPod last week. I got tired of listening to other people’s conversations while trying to get some writing done at Starbucks. It really is amazing having every piece of music you own available at any time. I recommend it for you, Jason.
Robert, I imagine the Mac-user response to your second point would be “you don’t need to know all the specs, of course it will work. It’s a Mac!” 🙂
Although I’m with you on wanting to see the interface. That can make or break a lot of deals in the software biz.
I think iPods are cool and amazing little machines, but I’ll be honest, I don’t listen to music much anymore. Most of the time, I find it more distracting than the buzz of conversation. Still, it would be cool to download some of those new-fangled podcasts I hear about, or maybe some old-time radio shows. I enjoy those sometimes. (I’m such an old fart…)
