Friday Fun and Games — Quiz Time!

Because it’s Friday — and because I’m feeling too lazy right now to actually write anything — I decided to follow my friend Jen’s example and take the Nerd Test. The results were surprisingly gratifying:

Modern, Cool Nerd
69 % Nerd, 69% Geek, 39% Dork
For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.

Nerds didn’t use to be cool, but in the 90’s that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn’t quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and “geek is chic.” The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)!
Congratulations!

My test tracked 3 variables to see how you compared to other people your age and gender:

free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 69% on nerdiness
free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 92% on geekosity
free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 67% on dork points

And just for kicks, here’s another one that should land me on a few “persona non grata” lists, at least here in red-state Utah:

You are a

Social Liberal
(70% permissive)

and an…

Economic Liberal
(18% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Socialist

Interestingly enough, the Politics Test tells me I’m Totalitarian… and on the chart with famous people, I’m just slightly to the right of Darth Vader.
    Eeks.

  2. jason

Eeks, indeed. The really funny thing about these tests is that I think you could probably take it again in five minutes and come up with totally different results.

  3. jason

Oh, and for the record, the test placed me directly over Hilary Clinton’s face on the famous people chart.

I’m also a socialist. I scored as a Social Moderate (55%) and an Economic Liberal (11%). Guess we suit each other fairly well. 🙂

  5. jason

Just a couple of aging hippies, that’s us. 🙂 So who were you near on the famous-people chart?

  6. Cranky Robert

Jason, you jerk. Why did you bring this into my life? I suck:
    Pure Nerd
    91 % Nerd, 34% Geek, 47% Dork
    Thanks for nothin’.
    Robert

Um, blame Jen because she brought it to my attention?
If it makes you feel any better, check out my comparison scores — I’m geekier than 92% of the thirtysomething males walking around out there. And I’m a pinko socialist to boot!

I took the nerd test the other day when Jen posted to it and was listed as A modern, cool nerd. I just took it again and this time it says I’m a pure geek. Can one change that much in a week? 🙂

Just think, the next time you take the politics test, you’ll show up as a fascist! Gotta love internet quizzes…

  10. Cranky Robert

I took the politics test and came out as a straight-down-the-line Democrat. So there is some justice. Where do you find these tests?

  11. jason

Robert, these things tend to drift around the ‘net every so often, especially on the networks that help people set up blogs like LiveJournal or Blogspot (this site is a do-it-yourself affair as opposed to one of those). I usually pick them up from my friend Jen, who has a LiveJournal. Once you’ve followed a link to take one of the tests, you can usually find links to others from the test page itself…
